Suddenly, at his residence. Predeceased by his parents Jack and Ann, and brother in law Donal. Dearly loved brother to Pat, Mary and Matt. Deeply regretted by his loving family, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Keegan’s Funeral Home, on Thursday, December 22nd from 7pm with Rosary at 8.30pm. Removal on Friday to SS Peter and Paul’s Church for 12 noon Requiem Mass https://www.portlaoiseparish.ie/webcam/ Interment immediately afterwards in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery. Bill Phelan was to the fore-fronts of juvenile hurling and football coaching in Portlaoise GAA building on the work of primary school staff, especially Christian brothers, Br. Nolan, Br Jack Beausang and Br. Somers. John was lucky to attend primary CBS during the 1950s and 1960s and the vocational school where Bills kindly teaching style made life in school a happier learning experience for John who found school work tough going. John found a great outlet in hurling particularly under Bills guidance in the 1970s at all levels up to and including senior hurling.
